Love of Learning, Love of Life, Love of One Another
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the new school year, we hope you have had a fun packed summer holiday!
At the beginning of each topic we will endeavour to send you a newsletter to inform you of our plans for our upcoming learning. These newsletters will provide an outline of what we will learn, but new aspects of learning may arise following the children’s interests as the topic progresses! This half term, alongside getting to know new teachers and new classrooms, we will be learning about Ourselves.
Through Science we will learn about our body parts and senses. We will learn about what humans need to survive and to stay healthy, including a balanced diet, water, air, exercise and general health/hygiene. We will look at how we change as we grow /age and compare this to the life cycles of other animals.
This will link into our DT work where we will design and make a healthy snack or meal using different food groups.
Through Art we will experiment with colour mixing to create the right skin tone for our self-portraits. We will look at how and where to place our facial features on a self portrait.
Through History we will look at how the children have changed from birth and create their own personal timeline with any significant personal or national events that they can remember.
Through Geography we will look at how the seasons and weather changes around us and how this effects plants and animals, including ourselves.
Through RE we will be focusing on the questions Who am I? and What does it mean to belong?.
Where possible the children will have opportunities to access ICT linked to our topic. In addition we will learn about how to use computers safely and how to log on/off, shutdown, type, save and edit work.
P.E will take place on a Wednesday and a Friday but please ensure that your child has their P.E kit with them for the whole week. To be prepared for all weathers, please can your child have tracksuit bottoms, a long sleeved top and trainers (so that we can still do our P.E outside when possible) and black/navy/red shorts, a plain red/white t-shirt and plimsolls for when we have to do P.E indoors.
If you have any artefacts or expertise that could help the children learn about our topics then please let us know.
