Kirkby & Great Broughton CE VA Primary School Nursery

“Shine among them like stars lighting up the sky”

(Philippians 2:15-16)

We are delighted to welcome you to Kirkby and Great Broughton  Primary School Nursery. We look forward to working closely with you over the coming years to support your child on their wonderful learning journey.

At Kirkby and Great Broughton Nursery, we aim for every child to ‘ Shine like Stars in the Sky’.  We believe that every child is unique and special in their own way and the Nursery environment here allows them to flourish and shine.

FOUNDATION STAGE CURRICULUM: What will my child do in nursery?

We  follow ‘The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework’ (EYFS). The EYFS will be the stage your child is in until the end of the Reception year at school. . It is based of four important themes and principles:

A Unique Child – every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.

Learning and Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected. Each day your child will be involved in a wide variety of activities which will encourage learning in an enjoyable and stimulating way. There are seven areas of learning which must be included in the curriculum planning.

There are three prime areas:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

And  four specific areas, which help strengthen and develop the three prime areas, and ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm.:

  • Literacy • Mathematics • Understanding the world • Expressive arts and design

Your child will be immersed in a language-rich environment that will ignite their curiosity, creativity and imagination, promoting and enhancing communication and language development.  They will learn through play, gaining independence and  resilience whilst having lots of fun!

Food and Drink

MILK AND SNACK: Milk is provided free of charge  We also provide a variety of fresh fruit each day.

LUNCH:  If your child is staying for the full day session, a chargeable  hot meal can be provided or you can choose to send a packed lunch. Meals can be booked half termly on the booking form and the menu can be found on the school website.

All snacks and meals are supervised by our staff.

It is essential you let us know of any dietary requirements.

Communication

The communication between parents and our staff is essential to ensure happy children and we have an ’open door policy’ across school. Staff will always be available on drop off or pickup and there will be more ‘formal’ opportunities to meet the staff and find out how your child is progressing.

Our main form of communication for messages etc is  ‘Seesaw’,  an online platform.  You will be allocated a log in on admission and will be able to see what your child has been getting up to!  Staff do not always see messages immediately so any urgent messages should go through the school office.

If you have agreed to it, you will also receive texts to inform you of whole school events and news across the school will be on the fortnightly newsletter.

What To Wear and What to Bring

Children should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Learning will be active and fun so please no clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty!  In Nursery we do painting and gluing activities almost every day and are outside daily too. We provide aprons but please appreciate your child might go home a little messy.

In a  SMALL bag please provide a change of underwear/clothes and pull-ups, wipes etc if required (please discuss this with your child’s key worker) . Labelled sun cream (please cover your child prior to coming) and a waterproof in the rain is required too.

Drop off and Pick Up

On a morning, please bring your child to the nursery building to START at 8.45.  For the safety of all children, the gates will be unlocked at approximately 8.35 and locked again at 9am so it is very important that you are on time.

If your child is staying for the morning session, your child will be escorted to the gate at 11.45.  Please wait at the gate.  Similarly at 2.45 your child will be escorted to the gate.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO PARKING IN THE LAYBY AT 2.45.  Please park safely and legally and walk.
